Education

Commerce City’s 9,600+ students in grades from K-12 are served by two school districts, Adams County School District 14 and School District 27J. 

Adams County School District 14

This district serves the historic parts of Commerce City and over 5,000 students. Adams 14 has 12 schools that offer choices to meet the needs of a diverse student body.

School District 27J

This district covers the northern range of Commerce City—one of the fastest growing areas in the state. The school district serves over 24,000 students from the cities of Brighton, Commerce City, and Thornton as well as portions of unincorporated Adams, Broomfield and Weld Counties.

Career and Technical Education

School District Adams 14 provides students in career and technical education programs with the work-related skills as well as academic and technical knowledge necessary to achieve success in post-secondary education, training, and employment. Career and technical programs include auto body repair, culinary arts, machine tool, multimedia, and business.

School District 27J offers 17 Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs which specialize in preparing students in skilled trades, applied sciences, modern technologies, and career preparation. Students can begin investigating STEM education, health careers, or family and consumer sciences in middle school. In high school, all students choose from 17 different programs including Agriculture, Automotive, Welding, Marketing, Family and Consumer Sciences, Catering, Health Careers, and Commercial Art and Advertising.

The STEAD School

The Stead School at Reunion is student-led school for experiential learning in science, technology, environment, agriculture and systems design. 

Charter Schools

Charter Schools are publicly funded independent schools under the terms of a charter with local or national authority that can be established by teachers, parents, or community groups.

Higher Education

Community College of Aurora 

The Community College of Aurora (CCA) is a two-year public, open access institution in Aurora, Colorado and is one of 13 community colleges in the Colorado Community College System. The school of choice for 12,111 students representing over 60 countries, CCA’s service area includes Commerce City and nearly 690,000 residents in Arapahoe, Adams, and Denver counties, and its student population reflects the broad diversity of this area. The college offers 77 degrees and certificate programs for students seeking to enhance their current skill set, pursue employment, or transfer to a four-year college or university upon graduation.

Front Range Community College serves the Commerce City area. The college has over 28,000 students and offers 72 associate degrees—including business and logistics, computer information systems, and hospitality management. Front Range Community College is just one of the schools in the Colorado Community College System (CCCS), the state’s largest system of higher education serving 137,000 students each year throughout 13 colleges and 40 locations across Colorado.
